Title: Another Transducer Quesion...
Post by: calli1 on April 22, 2010, 10:29:20 PM
Ok, I have tested my new 898 on the water.  My S I transducer works well.  My 2D ( older transom mount from 787c2i ) I mounted inside ....through the hull deal.  Works ok but not good enough for me...I do not think I am getting the most I can...Yet!!

My question is....my S I ducer is mounted on the drivers side of the transom...at least 18 to 20 inches from motor.  If and I say "IF" I remount my @D ducer on the opposite side of the motor ( passenger side ), and my S I ducer mounted up higher...would my S I ducer not pick up the other ducer..the older 787c2i ?  It would be mounted around 1 1/2" to 2 inches below the line.  This is something I may not know intil I do it...right?

Everything else works.  I will also say that I can only idle around 3 to maybe 4 MPH and after that I loose my signal from the S I ducer.  I think this has to do with my boat design and being an Aluminum boat.

Nop pics yet....

Thanks folks

calli 1,
Am I understanding correctly that you mounted the transducer for the 787c2i inside-the-hull of your aluminum boat?  How well did this work on the 787 unit?  I would expect that you would get better results on the transom of an aluminum boat.

Hard to tell about the 2D transducer in a new location but my guess would be “Yes it would block some of the Si sonar to that side”.  Now due to the distance between the transducers it may not be much.  If the Si transducer were mounted on a block that made it stick farther back from the transom than this would definitely lessen the amount the chance that the 2D transducer would block any of the left Si sonar.

Yes Greg..I mounted my ducer as the 2D for my S I 898 inside the hull...shooting through the Aluminum bottom of the boat.  I have a new puck style for my 787 on the trolling motor.

I know I have lost some strength signal of the 2D ducer going through the hull mount but I really didn't want to take the chance of it being in the way of the new S I ducer.

I am going to try another body of water that is more hard bottom...sand and much deeper.

If you can....take a look at my setting post and give me your thoughts.

Everything seems to be working good.  I will say I like the Green color over most so far.

I use a shoot-thru transducer in my aluminum boat. The one I have is an Alumaducer. I have my SI transducer mounted high enough on the transom and between the OB  for protection from stumps.
