Modifications to Bow mounted 360
« on: March 17, 2016, 04:23:15 PM »
Hello Guys,
Can someone please assist with a query that I have regarding bow mounted 360.
My boat that is still being built has a bow that will not allow me to put a trolling motor due to huge height. It is impossible for me to get a minkotta or fortrexx. We do not have dedicated marinas in India, so shore power for charging TM batts is difficult. The transom mounted 360 from my international dealer is beyond my budget. so I live chatted with HB and told them of my issue and asked them if i modified the bow 360 deployment (without modifying the 360 itself) will it work without a minkotta. They replied that it might not work. The answer was somewhat masked as if trying to make me understand that I have to have a minkotta to make the bow 360 work.
It looked liked as if the agreement between minkotta and HB would be dissolved if HB says go ahead with the deployment modification.
Somewhere in this forum, I have seen pics of a bow 360 mounted on a transom and the deployment is modified to go in manually. I wonder if it has worked for the guy.
Could someone please advise me if my idea might work or not. it will definatley save me tons of money. As i intend to get from international retailer the helix 9 SI and the bow mount 360.
Thanks,
GFA

There is no requirement for the bow 360 to be tied to a trolling motor .... That is just the mount that Humminbird supplies.

Rickie (rnvinc) has a custom mount, and there are other custom fabricated mounts for the 360 ..... I don't think I would try to remove it from the shaft it comes mounted on.  That shaft would have to be part of any custom mount you fabricated.

If your bow is that high above the water, a custom mount will be a challenge.

Thanks Bob for your input. I dont intend removing the original shaft that comes mounted on the bow 360. guess i will have to modify a lengthier and stockier ss rod and clamp on the boww 360 to it. then manually deploy it. More like a pivot arm.
