Title: What do you think THIS is.....?
Post by: jerklip on March 23, 2014, 09:26:46 PM
Any guesses at to what this may be? I think it's obviously man made.  It's in a man made lake that is probably 35-40 years old.  It could have been put down before the lake was filled.  I don't know.  Just an interesting structure.  You can see what looks like rectangular holes in it, evenly spaced apart.  An in some shots, it looks like it is setting on blocks, or legs of some kind. If I'm using Humviewer right (????), it is 28 feet long.

Very interesting!  Is it on an old road or something?

It is not on a road bed but it is on a submerged creek channel.

It’s one of the new Transformer robots!
Seriously, I don’t know.  I would say some sort of tank but it does look like it has windows/openings in it that are man-made and from the shadows it looks like something is sticking out from one side of it...

Like the “Not so fast” for the coordinates!  ;D

Don't know what it is, but it looks like it does hold fish somtimes.....kinda looked like a crappie school in that one shot.

Drop a camera down and take a look.

I just bought a Hummingbird 899 and seeing this stuff I cant wait to get out this weekend....I am new to this board and new to side imaging.. but have been fishing with 2d sonar for many many years...to me it looks like a roadbed with some type of "guard-rail" / "Road Closure" structure that prevented cars from using/accessing the road and driving into the stream channel if the bridge crossing the channel was removed.???...done just before the lake was being built? It would be interesting to drop a camera on it... also could they be telephone poles laying on the side...at the top? 2 of them on the right?  or logs with a root system and no branches ?  :o The school of fish on the left is awesome view.... Thanks for the post it got my attention....

It has taken me a while, but I have still been researching this image.  It's at Lake Lowndes State Park in Mississippi.  I spoke with the Ranger and he said he thinks that the prior Ranger had put this in the lake.  I don't know if it was put in before the lake was formed, or after.  But it is supposedly an old water tank, similar to the photo I have attached.  With some plumbing sticking up etc.  On its own set of legs.  And with rectangular holes cut into the top to let the air out.  Make sense?  It does to me.

Sorta looks like the trunk part of a BIG tree in that one scan but the others seem to show what look like holes possibly openings....It would definitely by on my hit list.... Nice scans by the way!
