Good morning, I have a new skeeter bass boat that came with the 728 unit in the drivers console. It has a thru the hull transducer and an external GPS module "AS-GR50" attached to it. I've ordered a 798ci HD SI to take its place and I'm moving the 728 to the front console and hooking up a trolling motor transducer to it. What I would like to know is if I get the Y Side Imaging Splitter Cable can I use the transducer that was hooked up to the 728 and also can I hook up the external GPS module AS-GR50 and power cable that was hooked up to the 728 and hook these up to the 798.

I would say yes to all but make sure the power cable has the round lump inside the cable. It is there to stop some noise problems in all units. If the plugs are the same, you should be good to go. bob

Bob is right but I would bet that the power cable for the 728 is the PC-10 which is a smaller wire gauge and does not have the in-line ferrite choke on it. The PC-10 will work but you will end up having to swap it out if you have electrical noise.
We made the 728 for several years and I cannot remember if it has the newer or older connector collector parts in the unit mount. If the 798 snaps in place that you are good-to-go. If it does not want to seat on the mount you will have to swap out both the black plastic and the metal parts that hold the connectors in place in the unit mount.

Got my new unit 798 in today. I got the 728 out of the drivers console and the only difference is the power cables and the ethernet connector on the 798 is a 5 pin and the 728 is a 4 pin. I'm not using ethernet so it looks like all I need to do is swap power cables and get the Y connector to hook up the two transducers. Hopefully have this going sometime this coming week. :)

I found a spot on the bottom of my jack plate bracket that I think will work for mounting the SI transducer. in this position it is directly behind the motor. I have the motor tilted down and it looks like all I need to do is make sure my cable is mounted down and out of the way of the motor. I'm using two transducers, one on the inside for high speed and the SI for low speed. Does anyone see a problem with this?

Looks like it should work good..... being a >:D's advocate it might cause prop cavitation problems at high speeds and I would watch out that it didn't get broken by the transom saver.

I'll need to make a plate to mount it there, not wide enough to mount it as is. I just had it taped up there for reference. I did get my unit installed except for mounting that transducer.

Skeeter boats are a pain in the rear to find a good spot to mount. The jack plate area looks to be my only option. I may have to make a L bracket to fit on the slidemaster jackplate.

Ok made an L bracket and finished mounted the transducer. The below photo shows the motor tilted all the way in. Now for a test run.[attachimg=1]

I think the transducer is too high to make any cavitation problems for the propeller but your testing will show that one way or the other. Today is a nice day to test it out, so let us all know how it ends up. Post some pictures of your L-bracket too.

Everything worked great, no problems with anything. Got to learn how to do screen shots, had some nice readouts on the SI. High speed worked great also, no problems and the imside hull transducer never lost signal :)

Ok here is another photo of the bracket with transducer attached. It is actually attached to a bracket on the bottom of my Yamaha. You can take the bottom bracket off the Yamaha by removing 4 bolts and then C clamp the L Bracket to it to drill for mounting. I drilled 3 triangular mounting holes "1/4" and secured with three 1/4-20 SS screws and lock nuts. This was a quickey for experimenting with. I plan on making another bracket probably made of Stainless Steel and offset it back another 1/4". Also looking at milling a center slot on mounting surface of L bracket so I can adjust the SI mounting bracket up and down as needed. I routed the transducer cable inside the jackplate.[attachimg=1]

If someone wants to try this make sure you check first for clearance when motor is trimmed all the way in. You may have to offset it back. I'm very close to having the motor hit when trimmed all the way in so I'm looking at offsetting the next bracket back a 1/4" to 1/2"
