Title: Moving the Zoom Box
Post by: Gimp on April 08, 2013, 02:38:53 AM
OK, I haven't got my brand spanking new 998 HD SI out on the water yet, mostly cause there's 30" or so of ice covering the lakes, but I've been playing around with the Simulation mode. I've found what might be one huge deficit in features, unless per usual I'm just an idiot and haven't figured it out yet, which is more than likely.

Here in Northern Wisconsin motor trolling is not allowed on most of our lakes. What some of us do is drift slowly and jig vertically. The zoom feature is nice to highlight fish on the bottom and put our presentation right on the fish's nose. That's all well and good when fishing for species that typically relate to the bottom, but what about suspended crappies and cisco (yeah, I fish for cisco, they're fun).

I've found a work around where I can set the min and max depth to only show the mid depths of the water column, but then I can't see the above and below. With the Bottom Lock On, it just flattens out the bottom and I can't raise up the zoom 'bracket'. With Bottom Lock Off the 'Zoom Box' is glued to the bottom.

Is there something I'm missing to move the Zoom Box, or is this the way it is?

That’s the way it works.  The Min/Max (Upper and Lower) Depth Range can be set to any water depths instead of always being a 15, 30 or 60 foot window like we used to have.

What you are wanting is a split window where you can set the Upper and Lower Range menus on one side and yet see the whole water column on the other side, right?

Exactly. I'd like to be able to zoom in on the fish I'm trying to catch at the moment, yet keep an eye out for others from top to bottom.

Greg
That is a pretty clever tip. Thanks

Gimp,
i would add thsi to the Humminbird Wish List area of this web site.  It would just be another Split Sonar View that could be added.

Thank you Greg. I'll do that.
