Title: 999ci hd problem - need help
Post by: andreandreasi on January 01, 2016, 11:29:51 AM
Hi

I have a 999ci that got stuck into a dark screen when i try to power it on. All buttons light up but the screen remains dark and the only way to turn it off is by unplugging the power cord.

Have double checked the batteries, all perfect in voltage and amp, have changed the power cord, have tested the bats and the power cord with my other unit (1199 ) and everything went fine. So definetely its not a power supply problem.

This happened after i turned the unit on with the as pc3 kit. The usb was not plugged into the computer, the 8 AA bateries are all new and just got from the box (duracell alkaline). The unit turned on perfectly, worked for a while but suddenly while i was changing the pages it turned off and since then i cant reboot it. I was not upgrading too. I noticed that the voltage indicator was too low while the unit was turned on with as pc3 kit (something about 8,7 or 9,1 volts i cant remember at all)

I am really really scared since i live in brazil and we got no tech support on fishfinders and its extremely difficult to ship something to usa and also its more difficult to receive things from usa thanks to brazils customs

Please, if someone can help me i would be extremely happy and gratefull as i am desperate. Fishing season starts in month here.

Thanks in advance and happy new year

You can try dis-assembling the cable collectors for the 999 and the 1199 ... Then test the 999 on the 1199 power cable station ...

Yes! I am realy searching and looking forward to find a solution to my problem

I have already sent an email to humminbird because Maybe you think i am kidding but if you know the difficulty and the cost we brazilians pay to call to the usa you would be scared! Calling would be the best solution (as you seggested) but unfortunatelly i live in a country where things and laws dont work.

Just to share my angry: i have paid the usa price for this 999ci plus 60% of customs fees. Now, probably i will have to ship it back to usa for a repair. When humminbird return the unit to me, brazilian government will charge me again more 60% of the product value. And thats the law. No matter what i argue even have already paid for this taxes. Its a shame!

Thats why i am relly engaged on tring to solve my problem!

Anyway... I really wanna thank you once again for your reply and help and i hope some user can give me a hand before having to send the unit back to the usa.

In case you need something here in brazil count on me

Bye

We would recommend that you check the current going to the unit while the unit is under a load as not only the voltage but the current also impacts the unit's ability to power on.   Make sure that you are plugging the power cord into the unit with the notch facing up if you are not using the connector holder as this too would cause the unit not to power on.

If the unit still does not power on, and it has plenty of current and the 1199 is powering on using the same power lead then the problem would be in the unit.

Units that are purchased within the US would need to come back to the factory for service.  Please be sure to include a copy of your receipt along with the unit for warranty service as the unit would have a year warranty on it from the date of purchase.   Warranty includes parts , labor to service the unit as long as their is no physical damage to the product.

The address for service is

Johnson Outdoors Marine Electronics
Attn Service Dept
678 Humminbird Ln
Eufaula AL 36027

The direct number to customer service is 334 687 6613, as the 800# would not work outside of the US and Canada.

Hi rickie

I have just received their response. They told me to check everything we have already talked and in case the problem persists, i should ship the unit back for repair.

So theres no other way than sending the unit back to usa

I havr already shipped it.

Lets wait to see what happends in the next days

Next week i will send what we talked

Thanks once again rickie
