Title: humminbird 767 humminbird pc program
Post by: lgaudet on October 30, 2011, 10:43:41 AM
morning i purchased a program from a local company that has over 100 waypoints for my area with some nice info about fishing these waypoints. My problem is that humminbird pc program will not load the gpx file. Error message reads. Humminbird pc 4.1.8    Port Sulphur Edge-1.gpx is not valid cvc-elt. 1: cannot find the declaration of element gpx. Have talked with person who made the program and we cannot get the gpx file to open. Have lots of other gpx files that were download from angling techologies mapper with no problems. The author of the program says use only humminbird pc to open program, but it will not. any one have any ideas?

Make sure that you are running the latest version of Java in your computer.

You could try opening it up with an older version of HumminbirdPC or even try opening it up with another program like GPS Babel and saving it back to your computer with a different file name.

If you want you can e-mail me the gpx file and I can try playing with it for you.

same problem here...

1. created points in google earth - saved them as .kml
2. used GPSBabel to convert all .kml files into a single .gpx file
3. used humminbird pc to open .gpx file
4. receive error message: cvc-elt:1: cannot find the declaration of element 'gpx'.

I then tried to convert and open a single file instead of multiple - but i get the same error

So, I found another very simple converter (called KML2GPX) which gets it done... i can now open the .gpx file in humminbird pc. only problem is this simple converter only converts one file at a time. Not ideal when you have over a 200 hundred points you want to upload into your device :'(

Any luck with fixing the GPSBabel - humminbird pc issue??

If you have the time, just get the waypoint coordinates and add them manually via humminbird pc or the fish finder.

KML2GPX only converts one file at a time or only one waypoint at a time?

I do not know if GPS Babel has been modified so that it will work with HumminbirdPC as I have not tried it since July 20th and in worked for me than (GPS Babel version 1.4.2).

Have you tried using the MN DNR program?  This is another possibility to convert from Google Earth to Humminbird formats.

I was having the same issue guys and after comparing some of the xml files from gpsbabel the format was just not correct.  After a couple trial and error conversions I found that in GPSbabel on your output setting make sure to check off "Add info (depth) as Humminbird extension".   This setting created the proper XML file that HB PC was looking for.  I would give that a shot if you having found an alternative yet

thanks for the tip bayouxpress - I played around in google earth for a few hours and ended up creating a subfolder in the my places panel then placed all my marks in there. That way I had a single file to work with, which I then converted using KML2GPX and when I opened it in HBPC, boom boom... she worked  ;D

Perhaps thats the way you were meant to do it in the first place but I didnt get it at the time...

I did try and convert it with GPSBabel (just as an exercise) and it didnt work

If I ever have to do another load, I'll try your tip
