Title: 998c and Airmar TM260
Post by: minesy on July 31, 2012, 12:40:29 AM
I was wondering if anyone has connected an Airmar TM260 with the 998 or 1198 and what results they have got with clarity difference in the 2d sonar. I was hoping to hook up a airmar and the HDSI transducer using the Y cable then switching between the two. I do alot of Billfishing in 50 to 60 meters but I venture out past the shelf and am looking to get some clarity on bottom and middle water level whilst out there. Side imaging is not useful whilst out in these depths so I don't need the HDSI ducer out there but I was wondering if 2d sonar clarity would be improved by using a tm260 Transducer for bottom fish and for bait balls.

The side imaging works great when I am up the creeks in my little boat.

If anyone has done it let me know how it has gone for you.

I was wondering this same thing.

I don't use SI or DI, but mostly 2-D, with Fish-id.
I prefer to troll, and a big Airmar transducer, with a 25 degree cone angle
would show a lot more of what I'm trolling over.
I don't fish in really deep water (100 feet or less), so 200khz would be fine.

I know people use the Airmar with Furuno and Lowrance units, but I can't
seem to find much info on the web for use with Humminbirds.

I read somewhere that the impedence is higher on Humminbird transducers,
and a Humminbird unit might get burnt up using a different transducer.

Maybe Greg has some info on it.
Hey Greg, have you heard anything bad about using an Airmar TM260, or TM270
transducer with a Humminbird 1197,1198?

I would be using this only for 200khz, and would like to know if
the Fish-id would work the same as the standard transducer.
Also, what would be the transducer type I would need to select in the
drop down menu?

Also, would I have to turn up or down any of the sensitivity settings?
I guess I want to know if an Airmar is 100% compatible with a Humminbird
unit.  Will it generate any additional heat in the unit?

Thanks in Advance.

ITG,
I have no information on this.  I know that others have been using Airmar transducers on our units but which ones and on what units I don’t remember.

As for the Transducer Select menu setting I would guess that the DualBeam setting would be the best.
