interlink and software
« on: January 27, 2011, 12:32:59 AM »
I just a email from greg on this site. Good guy. he told me that my older hummbird and the newer unit has to have same version software.
Has anyone had this same problem and if so how did you fix it ? I spent some good money on my 788ci hd di and a interlink for my older 997c si
I hope when it comes it works. I hope i didn't get the interlink for nothng.

This is what i am asking.
I like to ask something. Dos anyone have a older humminbird side imageing and a newer unit that is hooked up to the humminbird interlink unit ?
If so do you need the same version software in both units for it to work ? or it doesn't have to be ?
I heard if you are using a 4.95 version software with one unit and you have a new unit with a 5.210 version software it will not work with the interlink.
Is this true ?

Thanks
Jim

Jim,

If it was coming from Greg Walters here on the site, he works with Humminbird, so no reason not to believe him.  Yes that is the case.  Humminbird has a fix for it and if you call Customer Support they will email you the software for your 997.

Basically what has been happening is the new software will reprogram the Interlink. Once this has happened the 997 with older version software will not be able to communicate.  Panman had some success by powering the 997 on first and then powering on the new unit.

Thanks for that inform. I beleive him but he didn't tell me what you told me to do. Call humminbird and they can email me software for my older 977c si. Because he said they did have software yet for my 997 yet. I just wanted to ask around and see what every had input on it.
After I get new unit in Feb. I will call humminbird or maybe call ahead of time so i have it.
I will read the other posts also.
Thanks again. keep up the good work at humminbird.

Well actually I just answered your pm and told you that you could contact Humminbird for the 4.995 InterLink BETA software, but we have been told that this will still not allow the 997 and the 788ci HD DI units to use the InterLink.  Although I know that you have purchased the 788ci HD DI and InterLink so that they can communicate with your 997: I strongly urge you not to connect them at this time!  Please try and be patient while our Software Engineers work on a fix for this.  When that fix is available you should be able to update either the 997 unit or possibly both units (which will reprogram the InterLink) and be able to use them as intended.  I did not tell you about the 4.995 BETA software because it will not fix the problem.

Jim,
I don’t know what version software it will be but I assume it will be the next available one.

Here is a link to some information that posted in our FAQ pages about the Ethernet:
