I’ve seen this but only when the Sharpness menu is turned up.  Make sure that you have a good connection and wiring all the way back to the battery.  That all connections are soldered and are clean (including the fuse and fuse holder) and that at least 16 AWG multi-stranded copper wire was used to extend the power cable (14 AWG would be better).

any idea why the sharpness seting would cause this to happen?  sounds kind of strange that a feature setting would be the culprit..
Power supply might be a better suspect.... Supply size and length are important to these low voltage (current) devices.  Drops in current and system requirements are directly related in todays products. Not only sonar but radios, computers.  etc...

I suspect the power supply as the culprit as well Chuck but I know that I have heard from another Customer that when he turned up the Sharpness on his 998 (?) unit that the display looked like it blinked – even when the unit was wired with the original power cable directly to the battery (battery load tested good).  Got his unit into the factory and I got to look at that one: it looked the same as all of the other units we produced.  I think that with the Sharpness menu turned up, that you can see the smaller details easier so you can see the display updating which could be termed as “blinking” by some.  With it turned down or off the edges of everything are softened and you do not notice the display updating as much.

It's funny that you guys mention this issue. Yesterday, I turned up my SI sharpness to low for the first time. For the rest of the day I noticed the screen flickering like the refresh rate of the screen was perceptible. I never equated that to enabling the SI enhance until Greg mentioned it in the post above.

Just to be sure, my wiring is pristine. 12 gauge stranded, all connections soldered, spade fuse. I had never seen this until yesterday when I enabled SI enhance.

Seems to me like there is a software issue on display here...pun intended.

I had exactly the same issue when using my brand new 798 for the first time, trying to see what everything did, I "enhanced" SI and the screen blinked at a steady rate - this disappeared when the "enhance" was returned to default settings.
Power supply is not a problem as the 12V 7AH battery is also brand new with properly made connections. I am a retired electrician afterall.
Supect, as others have said - a software issue !

Tony
