987c vs 998c ... differences?
« on: August 29, 2014, 12:12:02 PM »
Hey guys, I was one of the very early (first month) users of the sideimaging with the 987c. I left it with my last boat I sold and the new one had Raymarine but I bought a 998c SI to put on it.
I just can't get the same picture quality. I know the 987c was a 1KW transducer and they added DI over time and such. I could see clear bottom out to 2000' of water.
The 998c I turned off all the sharpening and such and go the SI view good but the down imaging is a mess and color view is like made from legos.
OLD

This is the new one.. BEST I can get.. I'll go pull my SD card but it's just sometimes good, sometimes horrible. I try all sorts of frequency for side and down and my raymarine shows stuff the humminbird never sees.  Used to be the other way.

of course about 600' is all I can get but I understand the lower power.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums capttater.

On the 987 unit were you viewing the 200kHz sonar, the 50kHz sonar or a combination of both?
What 2D frequency 9or frequencies) are you using on the 998 unit?
From the cell phone picture you posted, it looks like there is a lot of interference in the 2D sonar.  Was the Raymarine unit on at the same time?
Does the 2D sonar always show those vertical lines?

I've tried it with the raymarine off and on.. The raymarine has a big 2kw transducer but it doesn't seem to interfere. The only thing near it electrically is a VHF which is about 2' away as well. The HB is in the electronics box while the raymarine down below. The do share a cable run but to the transducers but again off or on with the raymarine makes no difference.
