MOUNTING SI TO CLOSE TO OUTBOARD?
« on: May 06, 2017, 02:44:44 PM »
I am new to SI and this forum.
I have a couple of questions about the mounting position of new HD transducer to replace compact one that comes with the unit.
I have purchased a Helix 7 SI GN2.
I mounted the original transducer as shown in pic.
I am not sure if i should mount the new HD in the same position. The sonar images are not good.
Is there a issue with the way it is currently mounted?
Should I put it back under the "step"?
Thanks in advance for any help.

There is a lot of aerated water at 4.3mph  ... Will your boat idle any slower  ...??

Mounting the xducer down on the 1st step will definitely get the xducer down into cleaner water... but it will also put the xducer in a more vulnerable spot to damage from floating debris  ...

Try a slower boat speed 1st  ... Even try with the big motor shut off and just using the trolling motor to see if aeration from the big motor is causing the grainy images  ...

side imiging is a slice beam right and left not a cone but if it were me and and serious about fishing I would move the trailer roller to the inside of trailer and move transducer down on bottom step then your 2d signal will work at high speeds. sure transducer might be in harms way but if its not working at its best where it is its worthless anyway right? mount it about a 1/8'' below boat bottom. your unit is only going to work as good as the installation! also make sure its level when the boat is in slow or sitting still not level with the boat level in driveway. Also the ducer cable just dangling in air is a recipe for disaster

Have the Helix 7 si G2 with the HD transducer mounted 1/8 inch below the hull and it works to 30 MPH. There is a video on youtube on leveling the transducer, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuYsmJRc_fE.
