new monitor
« on: December 01, 2012, 12:55:36 PM »
I have a 798c with the transducer & wish to add the 1198 for a larger screen & hook up both through the ethernet connection - Is there a place or way to just buy the "monitor" screen & not the transducer - I assume the transducers are the same & don't need another one- am I really saving any money.?

2100deck, i also have a 798 and wish i had bought the 1198 for the larger screen. The 1198 comes with a better transducer, a 50 channel external GPS receiver and has 800 khz capability. The GPS receiver and transducer are compatible with the 798c. The transducer that comes with the 798c does not have 800 khz capability.

It seems as though the GPS reciever is better as you say-
Sometimes the GPS is off a bit on the 798. Hard to swallow at 2500 though

The 50 channel external GPS has much faster aquisition and allows you to mount it near the transducer with a clear view of the sky. You may want to download a free program called hummviewer to view your recordings. You will see much more detail compared to what you see on the 798 screen.

Thanks so much for the help - If I am going to spend the money for the additional larger monitor - might as well spend a little extra & get the added features that come with it.
Are you still using the 798, interesting to see what they do with the new 360 views - obviously need to work out the kinks though.

2100deck, the 798 is still being used, but with the external 50 channel antenna, and will shortly fit the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T transducer. This transducer has a longer element and gives better resolution. The 798 has a small screen, so the difference may not be noticed, but should be more apparent with Hummviewer and Sonar TRX-SI which is also being used.
