check your transducer for a small copper round thingy.  That is the temp sensor pickup. Look at the connector for any bent pins or make sure all pins are contacting.  Which transducer do you have?

Hi.
Have you checked the "System Status" screen??? The "System Status" screen can be accessesed several ways - by turning on the "View screen" or looking at it (at) power-up time (hit the "Menu" button when prompted).  If you use the second option you will see the “status” of all devices the Head supports (via software) (Note: you will have to power down the Head after you use this option and start over). The status of Temp and (possibly) Aux Temp (connected or not connected) will be shown on that screen. What you see will determine what you do next.

Take care,
Roger

New guy with a week owning it. I have 4.97 on my stat screen and have yet to get a card. The temp says unconnected and I don't see how to connect on any screens. 898c si. Still waiting on the manual and don't feel like printing 160 pgs. Thanks for the help.

Go to the Setup menus and open the Select Readout menu and set one of the readouts to show the Temperature.

bfconst,
Try testing your 898 unit on the transducer that came with your 597 or 570 unit to see if the temperature works and changes as it should.  You can do this with the boat still on the trailer and can spray the transducer with some water to get the temperature to change.  That will show whether the problem is in the unit or the transducer.

If you are using an AS-Si-DB-Y or AS-Si-LR-Y cable than try connecting the Si transducer (or one of the Si transducers) directly to the unit and see if you get batter results.

I thought I had the same problem until I did some reading. In "Select Readouts" you can change which readout appears in the left windows. Unfortunately they are not all customizable in all screens. Someone decided that any time you have a GPS screen active, you know what your "Course" is and it automatically shows in the second box. This choice is a poor one as you don't even have a course unless you are navigating to a waypoint.

The manual says there are others that are not customizable in certain screens, but I seem to be able to change all but #2. I solved the problem by using Window #4 for Temperature and I put Voltage in #2. That way when a Nav screen changes voltage to course, I can still read the temperature.

This is another change the programmers should look at correcting, unless there is some legal reason the suits say it must show you where you are going... in which case, it should show "Bearing". For my purposes, I know I'm headed south... I don't need the unit to tell me it's 174º as opposed to 177º!

Hi all,
So I just bought a 898c si, and had to buy transducer since it did not come with one, bought used.
I bought the Humminbird XHS 9 HDSI 180 T.

I taught this transducer included a temp reading, but I its not showing up.  I looked in the "select readouts" and its not option there.  Today I checked the "System Status" as suggested above screen and the temperature is showing  and both temp and aux temp show "not connected".

did I buy the wrong transducer or is it not working right?  do I need to buy something else?

thanks
-bb

bb,
Like the others you need to find another Humminbird transducer to test your used 898c Si unit on.  Most of the transducers that we make have a built-in temperature sensor in them (this is what the “T” at the end of the model number means).  The XHS-9-HDSi-180-T has a built-in temperature sensor but it may not be working.  Testing your unit on another Humminbird transducer will show you where the problem is.  This testing can be done while the boat is on the trailer.

I also lost my temperature reading after having sent my 898ci unit to the factory for rebooting. They put in the latest software 6.180 and now I cant find the temp. readings in "select readouts". Sytemstatus shows"not connected".

There is nothing wrong whit the transducer. It works fine whit an other unit, and I also tried a brand new one.

Can there be something whit the software update, or has the connection in the unit been smashed? Anyway it worked well
until I send it for rebooting?

Mine never showed up with the transducer .
I bought my unit used so I dont know if it ever worked with a previous update,
I updated it once after I bought it, still no dice. I have not installed the latest update yet.

I finally got a temperature reading to show when I installed a seperate Temp sensor into my 898
So know iam running both the temp sensor and the transducer .
