Transducer Interference
« on: December 14, 2019, 02:59:37 AM »
Hello,
I was wondering if any has experience with placing 2 transducers belonging to 2 echo sounders would create any cross signals?
I am planning to place 2 tranducers on different positions on a boat. Probably about 2 meters apart. Each will be recording onto their own sounder unit. I plan to use this setup for a fast sea bottom survey of a lake. Having 2 transducers would create 2 dataset for every boat passage. Saves both time & the 2 dataset would complement each other for any skips in the data recordings.

I am just worried that signals from 1 transducer would be picked up by the other echo sounder and thus create a cross signal. Not really familiar with the science behind the technology. I just need to record correctly the depth from each transducer/sounder because the depth from each unit will have a corresponding XYZ value from it's corresponding GPS receiver.
Thank you.

Hi

When two tranducer are used at the same time, the signals actually overlap. In this case it is better to use different frequencies (200khz-80khz). However, there can also be dropouts.

Thank you for the reply.
So if I set 1 echo sounder to 80khz & the other to 200khz, each sounder will only record its set frequency and won't record the other transducer's frequency? If that's the case then that is the setting that I need.
Regards.

Yes

80-200 for DI and 400-800 for SI
