Newbie Question - Snapshots?
« on: June 02, 2013, 10:12:38 AM »
Boy do I feel dumb sometimes.  My 998c and I are struggling to be friends.  Finally got out on the water and discovering the power of the HB.
I'm trying to take snapshot pictures of sonar images so I can ask you'all a few questions.
How do I set the unit to take snapshots?  Should they visible on the HB screen in the recording window?   I've read the manual, and I'm still baffled.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Bob

*Press the "Menu" button twice to get into the main menu....
*Cursor over to the "Accessories" tab...
*Cursor down to "Screenshot"...
*Cursor over to set this to "On"...
*Press the "Exit" button until you back all the way out of the main menu...

Now pressing the "Mark" button will take a screenshot of anything that is showing on the screen and write the screenshot directly to an inserted SD card...(and it will also set a waypoint into the unit's internal memory at the same time...)

Richie: thanks for your reply.  Yes, I've used your suggested procedure with no success.  After pondering this a bunch, and again trying it today, I think I may have an idea why I can't get snapshots.  Each day when I've been fishing I start the HB recorder and run it all day long..  The recorder seems to work fine.  I can store waypoints just as the manual says.
But, is it possible to make a screen snapshot while doing a recording?  Can that be the problem?

For you that know this part of the country, we are fishing Hebgen Lake, just west of Yellowstone Park.  It's in the Madison River drainage.
So, after fussing with the "Snapshot" problem all day, this evening I tried making a snapshot with the recorder turned off.  It took a perfect snapshot.  As far as I can tell the manual that comes with the unit makes no mention of this apparent fact - the unit will not take a snapshot while making a recording.
Does that sound correct?   Or, am I doing something wrong?

You do not want to make a snapshot while recording.
I think a snapshot can be made from a recording on the unit or using HumViewer,
but I'm not sure.

Newkid is correct...

You cannot take a snapshot while making a recording because the unit is busy writing the recording to the card....(remember snapshots and recordings are written directly to the card... and the processor can only "process" 1 write function at a time...)

Newkid is also correct that you can take a snapshot while the recording is being played back....(because the unit's "write" function is not being used during playback...)
