hi, Just a heads-up for anyone who is going to update FW on the 1197.
I think (well this is my assumption) that safest way of doing a FW upgrade is by using the memory card and not the humminbirdPC. I got stuck halfway with an error message saying "firmware error". It took a number of attempts and couple of pretty stressful hours until I finally could get the 1197 connect to the PC while at the same time having the test menu open on the screen of the unit (which seems to be the only way to go) and got the original FW version loaded. Eventually I used the memory card for upgrading to 4.570 and that worked just great.
So lesson learned, never use the humminbirdPC for upgrades..

Hello AHL,

Nasty experience I must say.  I had a problem with HumminbirdPC too. But I solved it. Afterwards, uploading the new firmware (4.750) went smoothly.

I don't know if you are using an USB2Serial interface. If you do then have a look at "Configuring the serial port to set up communication with HumminbirdPC" (http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=1289.0). HumminbirdPC even didn't see the unit. Now everything is OK.

An interesting feature of HumminbirdPC is the "Customize Personalized Text" icon. Applying this icon you can enter text that will appear in the middle of your Humminbird screen each time you power up. You have 4 lines of text at you disposal where you can enter for example your name, home port, company name, name of the vessel, ...

Regards, Peter
