Title: SOLIX TRACK BUGS
Post by: LittleGazoo on October 01, 2020, 03:58:47 PM
I WOULD NOT trust tracks with Solix units and hope Humminbird finally agrees to fix the Solix bug with tracks.
In the attached JPG:
[attachimg=1]

The purple track is the true track imported via .HT file and displayed correctly until a reboot.
The gold track is the same track imported via GPX file and Solix G1 & G2 units incorrectly display track-points.
Solix software code incorrectly removes "apex-track-points" resulting in a cutting-the-corner path seen by the gold track.
The software error is in the Solix's display-code because HB scrubs track-points.

HB has a mess with Solix tracking.
First:
A scrubbing bug which removes a apex-track-points which destroys track integrity. Current Track has the bug also, but because most users run Default Track Setting creating a track-point every 7 feet, then removing "apex-track-points" causing a very minimized loss of accuracy even after track-point scrubbing.
Second:
Management decision to scrub track-points at all. One idiocy is creating 7-foot track-point intervals by default. Set the track-point distance at 100-300 foot intervals resulting in a new track-point every 100-300ft OR CHANGE IN DIRECTION. Less processor-load creating and no need to scrub. Win-Win. QED

A quick-fix would be to continue to treat all Solix tracks as .HT tracks which avoid scrubbing even after the Solix is rebooted.

HB Support first response was that the Solix Display-Code scrubbed track-points to reduce load on the hardware processor. HB's second response was the standard "not responsible for navigation use of their products". I've since requested and awaiting some technical responses as I search for a doable workaround. Still waiting for a Humminbird call-back, but really do not think it is coming.

I like my Humminbird's. I attempted to report and resolve with HB. I suggested solutions. But I do not work for HB, but with HB's responses, I'm warning HB users that Solix tracking might not be trustworthy for safety. Sorry HB.

I need to take advantage of your skills.   Do you think this software issue only applies to the tracks, or are there other problems in 2D, DI, or SI software?  The reason I ask is that I would like a "LiveScope" style of display from HB.  Rumor has it possibly in the spring.  Garmin's first attempt with software/transducer didn't go as well as the current system.  The price of this new stuff doesn't leave room for mistakes.

Track building has to do with navigation which aids navigation on top of the mapping function of HB units.

2D, DI & SI are sonar functions of HB units. So not the topic of this thread.  You should open a separate thread on your question.

That said the history of HB initial product releases are normally industry "game-changers".  SI and 360 are two such releases.

This Solix track error is on Solix G1, G2 and I'm certain it will exists on Solix G3 units also.
Posting another example of how severe the Humminbird Solix tracking bug is. Purple is the correct path and gold is the track on a Solix. Notice the degree the gold track is off-course by the HB scale at 500ft.
A large stump-field exists at the cursor location from the shown creek and point of land. Solix cut-off track path is thru the center of this stump-field.
HB Helix and Legacy unit tracks are OK, but don't trust Solix tracks.

Thank you LG for keeping this info open in the forum so users can find it  ...

It’s valuable information for SOLIX users  ...

Still searching for a workaround, but NO JOY.

Tested importing a large track via .KML file.  Yes, Solix units will import KML(but not KMZ).

One, a track with 60 segments import each segment as a individual track with the maximum of 50 tracks.
Two, a simple large track will import, but will be displayed incorrect as all other import methods.

Only importing a large track via .HT file(s) will display correct.  But then you have to edit each track to set characteristics. IE, different colors.
And track(s) will display incorrect after Solix is rebooted.
BUMMER....

HB needs to remove or turn-off Display Scrubbing on tracks because of its problems.

More Solix examples of corrupted tracks caused by Solix display-scrubbing code:
Gold track is Solix corrupted track, Purple is correct track path.
