Hi,

I am using the AS-HHGPS cable and the dual rs232 port per instructions from humminbird. Connected to the NMEA in and out of the Horizon GX2100 AIS. Ultimately planning to connect the NMEA to my autopilot as well.

So far I have observed the following. Humminbird does not detect any AIS. Radio does not detect any GPS info.

If I switch the Horizon GPS input to connect to the pigtail from GPS antenna, then the radio receives gps data.

I have not had any personal experience, but if you do a search for AIS, you will find several good topics and what other users have done.

Good Luck,

Do you have NMEA output turned on in the setup menu? With the GPS-HS the output is 38400 baud rate if NMEA output is turned on. The pigtail has 2 nmea outputs 1 directly from gps puck and 1 from head unit. The one directly from gps puck will work without nmea output being turned on in the HB unit setup menu. I believe based on what you are saying that the puck output on the pigtail is 4800 baud.

Standard Horizon has updated the 2100 to the 2150 model that allows for this.

In my survey of the forum, I haven't found anyone who claims to have made the connection with the dual rs232 work. To further my investigation, i have obtained the Humminbird USB connection kit and installed teraterm. With these connected, I don't see any nmea sentences being output. Is this individual unit defective or is there a problem with the design?

I also noticed that the dual rs232 is ambiguously keyed. the connector on back of unit has notch in upper right and lower left which allows the plug which has a single notch to go on in two orientations.

I believe the GPS puck output only sends the GPS sentences and not the depth and nav messages which would not allow me to use the navigation features of my ap24. Can anyone confirm or is there a simple method to see which sentences are being sent?

Do you have NMEA output turned on in the setup menu? Also NMEA output does not work in Simulator mode.

Yes NMEA2 out is turned on. Software version 6.6. Has anyone use the PC cable successfully on this model?

Here is an update than may be helpful to some one. I captured the NMEA data coming off of the pigtail on this unit and the data is not straight from antenna as I expected, but somehow from unit itself. It includes all of the depth and navigation messages and turns on/off based ont the NMEA out. Also this pigtail has black, green, and white wires. Does anyone know if the green is supposed to be an input? I wasn't able to get unit to recognize either my AIS 38K or compass 4.8K signals. Anyway at least now I can use the pigtail for the VHF and autopilot. Still working on getting the AIS signal to be picked up on the  dual rs232 port if anyone has been successful doing that please send me your secret sauce recipe.

The green wire is direct from gps, the white wire is from the control head (see below). Really though you should be  hooking AIS to dual rs 232. The color of the wires are the same on the gps pigtail and the HHGPS wire but the3 pigtail does not have input.

GPS pigtail wirring (note no input)
• Green Wire, GPS NMEA Out
• Black Wire, Ground
• White Wire, Control Head NMEA Out

HHGPS wiring
• Green Wire, GPS NMEA Out
• Black Wire, Ground
• White Wire, Control Head NMEA Out

Thanks for the tip on the color coding of pigtail. Did you find that documented somewhere? Is there a document anywhere showing the pin definitions of the dual RS232?  Still struggling to get the AIS to owrk with the dual RS232, pin diagram would help.

The HHGPS info above is wrong, I gues it would not copy and paste from PDF. Below is a link to the AIS connection guide.
