Rodger,

Welcome to the forum.  The benefit would be the ability to share waypoints and gps.  You would be able to mark a waypoint on the 1198 while you are scanning and then be able to navigate to it on the 797.  You may not want to share GPS between the units if you have two transdcuers.  You want the GPS module to be as close as possible to the transdcuer the unit you are using is connected to.

The 797 does not have ethernet so you will have to use the Interlink module.

Hope that helps,

Robert

Hello all, I am a newbie here, and have just gotten my new HB units.
I would like to connect the two, to share info (waypoints etc).
I have an 898c si and a 788ci  Combo.
Which is the best avenue to go? I thought I read, the 788ci can do ethernet with software upgrade and an adapter cable. Or would Interlink be my best route?

Another question would be,  I plan on using the Lakemaster chip. Do I need one in eacch unit?
I think I have alot to learn! ;)

Ethernet without a doubt. You will need to buy a card for each unit. They will not share lake maps yet. Gary

But only if that is a 788ci HD DI Combo or 788ci HD Combo unit.
If it is not an “HD” version 788ci unit you will have to use an InterLink connection.
