What you could try is to remove any SD cards in the unit.
I suppose it's locking up when trying to load in your Waypoints?
Is that correct?
If so, you may have one or more corrupted Waypoints.

Fully charge and load test your battery and check all power connections.
You battery may not have enough power to boot the system up.

You could try and download an older version of the software to an SD card.
Shut the unit off, then insert the card with the older update on it, then
turn it back on.

If you do get the unit to boot up,
bring in your Waypoints into Humminbird PC and check them.
Look for duplicates or bad coordinates.
Once you fix them on the SD card.
Delete all NAV data from your unit and let the fixed Waypoints load back in.

Good Luck.

Nope.. Nothing happens :( Am i doing it wrong?? I use humminbirds PC program and that program transfer the bin-file to the memory card..Then i put the memorycard in 898 c Si Unit and power up.. It starts whit the first screen and then jumps over to the loading menu and gets stuck there.. I can't even turn it of via the button, so i have to cut the power via the battery..

I would be glad for more input..

Best regards // Ulf in Sweden

You don't even need to use HumminbirdPC.

First, put the memory card into a card reader and put it in your computer.
Using Windows Explorer, make sure you delete any old .bin files on the card.

Then, download the software update (.bin) file directly to the SD card.

Are you completely satisfied that your battery/connections/fuse aren't the problem?

Yep.. No problems at all whit the power.. I've used a Fluke to check it.. And tried diffrent sources.. :(
it's just stuck there in the loading-sequens.. Just like an old PC running whit a bad partion of XP..
I wished there could be a hard-reset button.. But NOPE..
Thanks for all your suggestions.

There's one other thing you can try.
It's called a Bootstrap.
It involves hooking a cable to your unit and your PC.
Then running the install from your PC.

I did a search on this site and I can't find any information on it.
I know previously, there were a lot of posts about it.

I would call Humminbird Customer Service at:1-800-633-1468
They may be able to ship you the needed cable or give you some other advice.
Hopefully, your unit is still under warranty.

I hope you get it fixed.
Good Luck.

Jepp.. I'll do that.. Already ordered the cable but its out of stock worldwide.. So we built one our self.. But it doesn't response to that either.. And send it back to the states will cost too much,
Because Humminbird doesn't pay for the freight overseas. It will end up whit that i unscrew it and look inside and after that i order new one or maybe another brand.. I'm little pissed because I've just used it 4 fishing times and all goes down the drain..

Sorry for my bad mood and GREAT thanks for your help..

Sincerely Ulf

Just a thought but restore factory defaults prior to loading.
And you may want to load a back level and then try to go forward if successful.
On another thought the bootstrap may not work with the new linus processors.

Im having the same problem it goes from humminbird starting up to humminbird shutting down but nothing happens.  I tried updateing it to the newest update and now its locked in this loop  I have to remove the power cable from the back to shut it down.

Had the same problem. The cable PC will not help. Alas. Only send to the factory. You do not solve the problem yourself. :(

Thanks mate, IŽll do that.. :(
But first IŽll buy a new one.. CanŽt wait for it to be fixed.. It really sucks that there is no Hardreset functions on the units.. It must cost HB a lot of cash to fix all units..

The reset function works only through the menu.  The device is no longer boot normally after the firmware update. This is what happened?

Didn't update or nothing.. It was fully function the day before.. And the day after me and my brother went fishing again.. And it didn't run the bootsequens as it should, just stopped at the screenshoot i posted.. And you can not turn it of via the on/off button, you will have to disconnect the powercable..
