Step by Step for setting up Humviewer
« on: January 25, 2010, 07:03:13 PM »
Lets install Humviewer from the beginning.

Lets go over what steps we are doing to install Humviewer (I am actually creating this on my computer step by step as I am writing it down).

1.  Make a folder on your Desktop --- Call it "Humviewer" (later on you can rename it).
2.  Open it and "restore down" which is not minimize or maximize
3.  Open your search (I use Mozilla FireFox/Google) type in humviewer press enter
4.  "HumViewer - Viewer of Humminbird sonar recording files" comes up, click on this
5.  If you don't have it already, then it can be downloaded here, click on "here"
6.  Download Java for your desktop computer now! Version 6 Update 18, this will insure you have the correct Java.
7.  Download the Jave file then install it.
8.  To install the program, just run the HumViewer install file, click on Humviewer Install
9  Humviewer install puts the program on my Desktop it is "HumViewer_3.031"
10. I can drag it into the folder Humviewer or cut and paste it into this folder.
11.  Double click on on Humviewer and click on "run".
12.  Now if you click on "Run HumViewer" the Humviewer screen screen should come up and it will say "Humviewer-No File".

If we have got this far we are good

13.  Now plug in your SDHC Sandisk Card with your recordings on it into your USB port
14.  Click on "My Computer" then double click on "Removable Disk" there should be a file called "Record"

15.  Right Click on record and then click on copy
16.  Go to your Humviewer Folder which is partially opened, right click and paste the record file to this folder.
17. you should have both "runHumviewer" and the "Record" folder in the  the "Humviewer" Folder, if so we should be good so far.
18. If so double click on Humviewer. It will come up, with nothing on it.
19. So Far So good.  Go to "file" open it, click on "open"
20.  Double click on "Record"
21.  Then double click on the R00xxx number that is not a folder it is actually a *.dat file
22.  The file will load (takes a minute or two depending on how big the file is.
23.  On the upper right hand cord is a block called play, click on this and it should start playing.

24. You should now have the program running and you can adjust the speed up and down.

I have actually keyed in all of the above as I laid it out for you.  If you follow the steps it should work.

You may want to print this out to follow along to make it work.  Like I said I had a lot of problems Personally in getting it to work, but it is worth taking the time.

Try to follow through as it is laid out, if something does not follow as stated above, at what number are you having problems?

Did you install the 44 version? Then you're OK and should continue with #13.

So far it sound like you are good, "no files" is exactly what you would see on a new installation and when you want to load a new file.

The next step is in the upper left hand corner called "File" click on this then click on "Open".

A large box will open on your screen titled "Open", next click on Look in: on the down pointing arrow.

Next we need to find where your recordings are kept.

On the right side their is a bar that you can scroll up or down.

If you created your folder on your desktop then scroll to the top and click on desktop.

Look on that screen and you should see the folder you created with your recordings, double click on it.

You should now see a folder called "record" if you transferred it into your folder.

You should now see your recordings, you will see a folder R00001 and also R00001.dat, recordings are sequenced so the numbers could be higher.

Double click on R00001.dat file (or higher).

Humviewer will start loading the files, be patient depending on how large your file is depends on holw long it will take to load (I prefer to stop and restart every 30 minutes to keep the files reasonbly small).

When the files have loaded a new screen will come up.  In the upper right you will see Speed, Play, Backw.

Click on the play block and it should run.

I normally run at high speed until I see something I want to look at, you can stop the scrolling by re-clicking on play.

There are a number of options, play with them try 3 and 4 screens in the upper left corner.  Change colors I like brown for side imaging and 2d default for 2D.

The 2D will show you the fish arches.

Also as Harry suggested if you have not downloaded the last update you may want to do it, but play with what you have.

George, I have a new 1197 with no recordings. I want to install the new down upgrade.  I am having trouble following you instructions.  Is there another way to guide me. I have a new 2g card as suggested by customer service. My profile says I have 300.26 not 3.031  ??  I have Son2xtf And M1197.4750 on my Desktop.  Can you guide me?  Thanks, Don

Welcome to the forum Don!

the HumViewer software is for viewing your recordings ON YOUR PC. It's not an upgrade for your unit.

To upgrade your unit's software follow these instructions and you're good to go:

http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=12.0

If you want to watch some recordings in Humviewer simply start up your unit in simulator mode and do some recordings there. After that you transfer the recording from your SD card to your PC and call up Humviewer to watch them.

Hope this helps

I'm stuck between 19 and 20. >:(

I saved the test file from the Humviewer  website, because I dont have any saved at this point in time.

How do I transfer the saved file from my Humviewer file to the HumViewer player?

It's kind of confusin for us that are not real smart on the computer when it says Humviewer, Does that mean your humviewer file or the HumViewer player. ;)
Hate to see her go, but love to watch her leave.

It appears that you have a good installation.  On the top left of your screen it states "HumViewer - No File" this is correct.

Next step is to click on "File" then click on "Open"

The Open Window has a "Look in" with a "V" down arrow, click on this.  Now you need to find where you stored your data files, If you made a folder on the Desktop, move the cursor up and click on Desktop.

Then open the folder called "Record" (or whatever you called it) where the data is stored.  In this file there should be a folder or folders R00001 etc. and likewise there should be a corresponding file R00001.dat etc. Click on the dat file and the program should start loading.

Depending on how much time you spent recording (how large the file is) depends on how much time it will take to load.  Once loaded click on "play"  it should work.

George,  Thanks for the reply.  The computer that the stuff is on is at the office and I'm at home now, so I cant do anything for today.

I save the file from the Humviewer website for viewing and put it in my desktop humviewer folder.  I thought I tried to move it to the HumViewer player several times, but cant remember for sure.

Ill give it a go again in the morning.

Thanks again.

The first time thru can be trying but once you done it it gets easier.  Play with the softwae it has a lot to offer.  Play with the different views.  Also, if you right click you mouse over one of the views, it will let you select from SI, DI, etc.  it took me a minute to find this on the last update.

It is a great program.

Enjoy

I got it to work George.  I had to 'extract" the 7z  file in my humviewer files to get it to show up in the Humviewer player.  Cool stuff.

Not sure from the pics but it appears that you are trying to load the folder, if so you need to load the *.dat file.

George, I clicked on the DAT file in the first picture and got the second picture../

The box in the middle says:
This is not a valid Humminbird recording file.
Could not find any SON files for R00010.

It is a little difficult to see from the screenshot, but are one of the two directories named R00010, and does it contain files with names like B001.idx and B001.son ?
