Has anyone in this forum actually used Reefmaster to create up-to-date maps of their local lake (s)? It looks really neat but I see no discussion of it here.
A bad day on the lake is still better than a good day at work!

On the forum page, under software and software development, there is a Reefmaster section.

newkid4si, have used it extensively, its powerful and user friendly, makes a deal of difference to have contour lines, you can predict where the fish are going to be.

Chuck

I'm just learning it but so far it's been great.  This is a project I'm working on now.  I just make recordings of areas I'm interested in or fish and add it to my project.  I review recordings in HV anyway and transferring it over to RM is easy like mako stated above.

Plus the 3D map view is great for finding new location to put in structure.

slabbacks,
Thanks, that looks really awesome.  I normally only fish only one lake, its a huge one and I could probably work it the rest of my life and not completely map it.  Lake Ouachita in Arkansas. Over 40,000 acres (That's over 60 sq miles!).  Have printed maps already, but they are obviously from quite old information (not that a 60 year old lake bottom really changes much.) I am wondering if it would be better to spend the money on a Navionics Hotmaps premium map, or Reefmaster.  About the same price.

Since HB bought DrDepth and hid it in the closet, I would suggest that we give Matt (ReefMaster) all the support he can get. Like martin with Humviewer, Matt has written an excellent piece of code. I am trying to get my head wrapped around it now and plan on it being our mapping program for surveys..

chuck i would say get the free trial like he said and play with it.  just don't get discouraged at first....it will come to you as to how to apply the program  to what you need  to do to get the job done.  Matt has a site and will answer any Q's you may have.   I think you will get more from it than the nav card.  I have the nav card now and with what you can do with RM it will give better results.

Dont worry about all the lake, just do the areas you fish.  That is what I'm doing now.  Any time I do check a new area out I just add to the project.

Is your lake showing in the unit already with contour lines?  If so then hold what you got and try RM for free.  If it's not one of the lakes that are covered then that's another issue.

Thanks guys!
Chuck - as the others have said, give the free trial a go and see how you like it. If you need more time to try things out once you have had time to collect some data, give us a shout and we can arrange that also.

There can be a bit of learning curve at first - I would recommend following the map making tutorial and watching this video accompaniment to get you started.

Since we have users Lowrance as well as HB, we now have our own forum. This is quite lively and populated by a lot of mapping enthusiasts. A good place to look around, and ask questions if you have them.

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Matt, thanks, I will probably jump over to your forum site. We used to make contours with Lowrance and the 3DFields program. I need to get going on the HB unit and your program..
