Title: software update question
Post by: riven1950 on April 07, 2010, 09:14:40 AM
I have a new 798ci si and hope to complete installation today :) Wish me luck!!

I just registered with HB and there are 4 updates showing:

Hummingbird PC (3.0.26)
Son2xtf (1.001 )
Son2xtf for windows vista (1.001)
798ci combo update (4.78)

I  have 3 questions please:

I am using windows 7 starter with my netbook...is that software going to work ok to do the updates? ( I do have a xp version laptop I can use if needed )

Can I download all of these at once or do they have to be downloaded one at a time?

Simce I am not using windows Vista do I need that update do I just delete that one? ( this is why I was wondering if Win 7 was ok to use )

Thanks,
Ted

Windows 7 is fine.  Pretty much anything thats Vista Compatible works in Windows 7. You should be fine on all.

Ted,
I think that I have heard that the HumminbirdPC program will work with Windows 7.

Which of these files you need depends on what you are trying to do.

HumminbirdPC is a waypoint management program.

The 798ci Combo update file is just that: a software update file for the 798ci unit.  Your unit may or may not need this update all depending on whether it has the most recent software in it or not.

The Son files are for converting sonar recordings to use with one of the viewing programs on your computer.

OK, thanks...that helps to clarify what I need to do.
