dark screen in deeper water

when i get in water over say 30 ft my screen get very dark.  what settings do i need to change to lighten this.  ive seen some really good pics in deep water and i cant get anything like it. 
I think this is just a setup problem

      Try this if it happens again. Both of these settings are in X-press menu. ( one press of the menu button )
      Set the SI sensitivity to auto.
      Set the SI range to 3 or 4 times the depth. ie... 30' depth would be 90' to 120' on SI range.
      There could be other issues, but it's a place to start.

It seems to me you may have a power supply problem.
I'm not sure, but I think the deeper you go, the more power the
tranducer needs in order to ping deeper.

I'd fully charge your battery and load test it.

It would be nice to see a Screen Snapshot of this and to know what menu settings and software version you are using in your 998c Si unit.

If possible; test your 998 unit on someone else’s boat that is also running a Humminbird Si unit (does not have to be the same model number) and see if you get the same results or not.
