I don't know the answer, but someone will help you, probably tomorrow.
It might help if you post which unit you have as the software varies between units.

I have an 898 and I JUST figured out how to do this the other day.  I will try to help.  After you've created your user track(mine happened to be 8 points along an underwater hump), you export just the user track to where you want your HBPC files to reside as a .gpx file. Once you have it there(in HBPC), you just upload the user track .gpx file to the drive your SD card is in.  Then, IMPORTANT!, power your unit on first and into normal mode, then insert your card. A dialog box will pop up asking if you want to upload the data from the card into the unit.  Select yes.  Viola!  The user track just shows up as dots on my nav screens, but it's visible and I can follow it if I'm careful driving.  LOL  Hopefully someone who's done this many, many times will chirp in to fill in any gaps I've left.  I'm typing this from memory at work.

Mark, if you can write this up as a step by step procedure and put it in the tutorials and articles of this forum for others.

Thanks Mark! You helped me remember how to make this work.

I also figured out how to change the small dots to thin or thick lines for us guys with tired eyes. When you get the tracks on your unit. Go into the menu to edit the tracks. There you can change the symbol for the lines from dots to thin lines or thick lines. you can even change the color if you want.

@Northwoods - Sweet!  Thank you for the information!  Much better than the dots!!!  At the rate I'm going, I think I'll have this unit mastered in about 10 years.  lol
