Title: Compact SI Transducer Mounting
Post by: NJsquatch on March 23, 2016, 08:43:02 PM
I am looking for some advice on the best spot to mount the compact SI transducer on my Tracker Targa 17 (Deep V).

As you can see by the pics there aren't many options due to the lifting rake and other protrusions. Things are even further complicated due to the motor being an ELPTO and having a couple of horizontal plates that I would like the transducer to be below.

The laser level line represents the bottom of the big horizontal plate on the outboard when trimmed all the way down.

I will be buying a transducer mounting plate and filling in the existing screw holes with 5200 between the live well intake and drain. I am guessing that I am going to have to lose the pito assembly as it will block the SI signal.

Thank you in advance.

You definitely have a challenging transom ...

Looks to me like where the speedometer is now will be your best option ...

You will have speed from the GPS ...

What I would do is get yourself a piece of 1/2 white poly board and cover  up all the drilling ugliness and I would certainly get rid of that probe type speed sensor. Drill the poly board not your transom and the probe location is your best bet for the transducer location.

See my thread.  I have the exact same engine it looks like, but not as challenging a transom.  What plate are you talking about?  The one on the lower unit?  How often are you really trimmed all the way down?

I think you want to mount really close to the engine bracket, where the current holes are now.
