120 volt ac to 12 volt dc
« on: November 16, 2010, 12:29:21 PM »
I know hummingbird does not make this cord, can someone tell me what I need to play with this in my home ? I don`t want to drag a 12 volt battery in the house, someone suggested radio shack offers something for this. Then of course I would need to buy an additional power cord for this unit correct ? Thanks

Radio shack or most any electronic store will have what you need. Just visit and ask the store person.
Your power supply should not be less than 1 amp, and does not need to be more than 1 or 2 amps.
dont forget to fuse the plus lead.
You can make your own power cord. It is easy and not expensive. Again check with the store.
the only HB part you might want to purchase is the power cable to cut and make like you want..
for our purpose we use a small motorcycle battery. Very small and not messy as it is sealed.

I dont know about you, but I save any power adapter I find, even on old stuff I throw out.  So chances are, if you have some laying around, you may have what you need.

Look for an adapter that has 12-16v output and a minimum of 1amp (1000mA).  Then you can cut the end off and just splice a power cable right to it.  You will need to check the polarity on the wires.

If not, here is one I have recommended before: 12v 2A PS from Digikey.com , $19.

Good Luck,

Robert is right, if you do not have one go on line or to Radio Shack (as suggested) with the specifications, probably can get one pretty cheap.  Also, for safety sake to protect your equipment  I would add a 1 amp fuse on the positive side.

Yes, get another power cord for your in-house set up--I have several. Then get the suggested power supply.
You can spend all Winter practicing with your unit in the comfort of your house.
When you read on some of the forums about suggested settings, you can try them immediately.
