Title: Power Cord Filter
Post by: salvor6 on April 14, 2010, 03:24:50 PM
My 798 came with a power cord that has a module molded into the cable called a "filter." Exactly what is this filter and what will happen if I use the unit without a filter? My buddy has the Humminbird mount on his boat and I would like to just plug my 798 into his mount. He has no filter on his power cord.

"Filters" like "chokes" help to eliminate spurrious electrical noise. These "noises" can affect the other electrical signals in the unit causing unexplained operation, "spikey" displays or other unusual display. The filter only works to eliminate if the outside influence noise is present. Otherwise the operation is unaffected.

If your buddy has no "noise" problem without a filter your unit will function just as his does.  Go ahead and plug into this power.

OK thanks Chuck. No, neither of us has any problem with electrical interference.
