Title: Problem with 1197
Post by: DRBass on March 17, 2012, 03:32:12 PM
My 1197 recently will not stay on.  It freezes soon after start up and then restarts itself only to freeze up again and restart.

I had already updated to 6.180 about a week ago.  No problems.

I tried uploading waypoints off of sd card and this problem started.  Sd card had only waypoints on it that I had taken from humminbird pc, same procedure I've followed many times before.

Any ideas?

Confirm...this started after you upgraded to 6.180.......
If you dont use the waypoint sd card, does it freeze?

installed 6.180 a week or more ago and used the unit 2-3 times with no issues

issues started upon uploading waypoints from sd card via Humminbird PC.  Unit freezes after 10 sec. or so and then restarts itself...freezes after 10 sec. and restarts.

Can you go back one level...then reinstall 6.180 and try it for a while with out the waypoints being entered..

Installed previous update..same issue

Installed 6.180 again...same issue

I've tried unplugging power from back of unit.  Is there someway to do a hard reset?

Are you absolutely certain your power is OK?

I believe so, brand new Sears PM-1 battery.  Unit at the bow is one same battery and it's running fine.

I don't have the nec. cable to do the "bootstrap" method.

When it is on for a few seconds, the right arrow key doesn't seem to respond either

Went all the way back to version 5.500.  No more freezing.  Now I need to figure out what went wrong and if I can go back to 6.180.

Seems to be a problem with Waypoint management or maybe with the latest version of Humminbird PC??

Let me know if you guys have any other suggestions or any experience with the new updates and uploading waypoints from newest version of Humminbird PC

another interesting thing...I deleted all Nav data from 1197 thinking I need to get rid of something corrupt and looked at the interlink status screen it show -151 waypoints....yes, negative 151 waypoints

DR....does the unit have problems without the sd waypoint card being installed?
Try it without ever putting in the card...

Not sure of problem but certainly a bootstrap restore might fix any corrupted waypoints.
Not sure of the -151 either..

There is no bootstrap restore method.  The post that was if your unit had problems while loading new software.

Your 1197 is InterLinked to another unit – this changes things.
What is the model of the second unit you have your InterLink unit connected to and what software version is it running?

Try loading the 5.840 software back into your 1997 unit and clear the InterLink.  You will need to delete all of the waypoints from whatever unit is also connected to the InterLink before doing this.  Than check to see if your freezes up and restarts itself and if the InterLink still shows any (negative or positive) waypoints showing.

I believe I've got everything working now.  After I reverted to 5.500, the unit worked.  Then I was able to delete waypoints, and clean interlink.

Loaded 6.180 again and loaded waypoints via sd card from Humminbird PC (newest version).  I was loading about 1300 waypoints and after inserting card there is a prompt that says loading, please wait.  But then that prompt disappears, making you think it's all loaded.  The first time, I started pushing buttons after the prompt disappeared and that's when the unit froze and I had to turn off power.

This last time I just waited after prompt disappeared.  Leads me to believe there is some sort of glitch with new waypoint management and how the units load files from Humminbird PC via sd card.

Interlink was disconnected during this whole process.  Other unit is a 958 with the latest update on it.  It didn't have any of these issues.  I didn't use it to load waypoints.

Everything seems to be good now.  Both units showing waypoints.  It took a better part of my day on Saturday, but finally figured it out.

Unit not withstanding the new release 6.180 (or the long name) does seem to have some issue with waypoints (and this may be left over from a previous but not fixed problem.
Also the ethernet is having issue still.
And to add into the issues are the interconnect or dual units issues.
HB will get this fixed. :P

I am wondering if the problem was that the 1197 was still busy trying to load those 1,300 waypoints when you started pressing buttons and it locked up.  The message should have stayed up on the display during this.

Greg,
That's what I feel like happened.  I agree the prompt should remain there or at least some indications that waypoints are still loading.

Next release...maybe disable the button(s) until the waypoints are done..
This is not a fast processor..
