Title: Video out on 998c SI doesnt have signal in regular or simulation modes
Post by: freezerfiller on February 04, 2013, 02:42:26 PM
I have the standard software that the unit came with out of the box (no updates).  I picked up the correct video cable off of Amazon and it showed up today.  I plugged up my home rigged power supply, and plugged the video cable up to my tv.  While I was trying to get the correct input selected, the unit went into demo mode, and it showed up correctly on the tv screen.  I then powered it off, and powered it back up in normal mode.... no signal,  I powered it off again and powered it up in simulator mode (not demo) and I get no signal.  I played back a recording, and I got picture.  Could having the ducer and gps antenna plugged up correct the lack of signal in run mode?  I was hoping to add a monitor so I could see from the front of the boat as well as from the seat.  Is there a reason why there would be no output in simulator or run mode?

I think there is a video out selection in the Set-Up Menu.
Turn it to on.
You may have to be in Advanced mode to see it.

I'll try it when I get home.  Thanks

What video cable did you get to hook the 998 to an external display?
I would like to add a second display in the boat. Thanks.

You are going to have a hard time seeing around that monitor when you are driving your boat…  ;D

Oh, thats nothing... you should see it on the 130" 1080p!  ;)....  but in all seriousness, I think a 15" flip down from the t-top front facing monitor would be the ticket.

Thanks for the amazon tip. Ordered the VC-1.
Could you break this down so I can understand it (I think a 15" flip down from the t-top front facing monitor would be the ticket).
   Sorry-- not very computer literate.

I think... this means the OP is thinking about putting a 15 inch monitor on the boat and using the video output from the HB to give a separate display....

If it were me .... I might go with a 19 inch monitor ...... at least until my kids were ready to give up their 32 inch ...... 8)

Thanks for responding. How can I power these with a 12 volt battery?

Yes, that's what I meant.  I have my main unit mounted so I can see it at the helm, but i'd like to mount a separate monitor on the t-top that will flip down so that whoever is fishing out the front of the boat can see what is going on and flip up out of the way when under way.  There are several 12v lcd monitors out there.  Unfortunately the price goes up when you start getting into marine quality.  I'll just keep getting outbid on ebay until I snag one.

I use a waterproof 15 "touchscreen SeaPC as a second monitor for my HB.
As the PC owning no video input I use a USB video grabber, but with not entirely satisfactory result. The monitor display is slightly blurred.

I need recommendations on a video display for use in the boat.
Power source is 12v from battery. Video source is from 998 thru HB VC-1 cable.
The goal is a second display that can be used in an open fishing boat. ( 12"- 15") What Mother Nature provides, it will be exposed to.
Companies and models that I could look at. Also ones to avoid. Thanks.
Freezerfiller-- I won't be out bidding you on eBay.

Newkid, go ahead...everyone else is anyway ;D  I think I'm too cheap right now.  What kind of budget are you looking at.  Are you always freshwater, or do you go salt? Do you have a dry place for it, or will it get wet?

Freshwater only. Open aluminum boat. No top/cover. Wife just spent $6,000. on a trip to Alaska. So something less that that. LOL
Seriously, no more that $200. unless the quality got a lot better.
I have a passenger that has lost his sight in one eye. I'm trying the make it more enjoyable for him to be out there.

I'd go cheap and removable then.  You can get a 12" lcd 12v monitor off of ebay for under that. It won't be waterproof, but if you put a quick release bracket on there you could just take it inside at the end of the trip and have a bag ready to put over it in a rain.  This is what I would get if I never touched saltwater...  http://www.ebay.com/itm/PYLE-9-TFT-LCD-HEADREST-CAR-TRUCK-RV-BOAT-MONITOR-DUAL-VIDEO-INPUT-w-STAND-12V-/230903946182?pt=US_Car_Monitors_w_o_Player&hash=item35c2f29bc6 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PYLE-9-TFT-LCD-HEADREST-CAR-TRUCK-RV-BOAT-MONITOR-DUAL-VIDEO-INPUT-w-STAND-12V-/230903946182?pt=US_Car_Monitors_w_o_Player&hash=item35c2f29bc6)    Cheap and not the end of the world if something were to happen.  BTW, I went to Alaska last year, and it was a great trip... I caught tons of red salmon.  Do you get to go?

Thanks for the reply. I actually ran across this item in my search, but not knowing good from bad, I thought I would ask someone that knew.
