Title: Thanks for all the great idea - 49ths Tow FIsh
Post by: 49thdiver on September 25, 2011, 02:40:52 AM
Well finding this site yesterday really got me inspired and I have built the body for a tow fish today.
So many great idea's here really made it easy for me to stop thinking about it and get to work.
You can see from the photos I had some materials around the yard left over  from other projects and stuck it all together.
It may not be pretty and might create some noise from turbulence, but it's got to be better than the imaging I am getting off my transom. You will note the nose cone is yes an aluminum water bottle. I bedded the bottle in sand and filled it with molten lead weighs about 10lb might be a bit heavy we will see. You will also note little clips made out of a white board edge to stabilize the leading edge of the fin. I am going to run the cable up through two holes in the tube and put some stainless eye bolts at strategic location for the tow line, for which I plan on using the hollow rope idea "brilliant". I only have a couple of short cable extensions so will not go to deep or too far aft for the first trials.
It's going to be a few days for me to get back to this project and a few more before I can get the boat back in the water so stayed tuned. Any comments appreciated.

PS one of my old transducers has the cable broken at the body of the xducer, I can see at least two broken wires and it only works on one side. I was planning on cutting into it and trying to re-solder new wires or cable then reseal it, any suggestions would help, the xrays on abraquelebout posts will help deciding how and where to cut.

All the best thanks everyone
