Making Targets for training

(1/1)

CFDCar27:
Anyone have any good ideas for material to make good reflective targets. I am training some local departments and i am looking for some inexpensive material to make some targets. I have used some masons lath but it is not as easy to see as i thought. I have also made a cube out of wire fabric and it works great but is expensive to make especially if you loose them. I do not want to have a float attached because i do not want the operators to see where they are. Any cool ideas.

sonar2000:
One of the best sonar training targets is a 150 or so pound hog. This is one of the best and most similar to human composition. Of course you may have to get permission to put in a body of water. Most hog farms will donate one if asked. Wire constructed or similar material will produce a target, but if you want to be on target get the pig..the color and shape will be very close to the human..
CFD, what units are you going to use?
Chuck

slabbacks:
Another good way to train the team in reference to working them into a target is a few truck tires.  Using Ocean Reef GSM G-Power Communication Units or other underwater coms you can move them into the target.  After training they can be removed from the bottom for later use.  Drill plugs (holes) in the sides to aid in sinking and recovery.  This is used with 360.  Have seen this done with the Team at our department.
