Poor playback quality HV
« on: October 04, 2013, 02:31:43 AM »
I'm trying to play back some videos I took on the water. I was initially worried about the playback quality in Humviewer but am now thinking its the quality of my recording ie setting. Is it safe to say that HV plays back exactly what is recorded?   I know I had some interference and I was playing with the settings a lot b/c it was my first outing with the unit. Will HV show more imperfections than the unit itself or should videos look exactly the same on my unit and in HV?

Edit: (My quality gets much better in Blue color. However I know I didn't have near this much interference around these bridge pilings). Will my HV get cleaner as I fine tune the settings in my unit?

The software is amazing.  Am I correct that mrj9600 created it? If so thanks a bunch Martin.  Its great to be able to fuel fishing obsession via a PC when I can't be on the water.

 Edit #2:
Image 1 was easy to clean up by adjusting my sharpness&contrast settings.
Image 2 is amazing. Units should come with double the pixels so we can images half as good on the water as we see on our PC/Humviewer.
Image 3 The jaggels were caused from turning my canoe.  I've since read on other posts that SI doesn't like hard boat turns.  I now turn much wider as to not tilt the transducer.  I only passed one bridge piling but I did a tight U-turn to pass it again. That is why there are jaggles and 2 images of pilings.

Recording quality is better when 2D sonar frequency is set on 200khz only.  Any 83khz setting will cause "jaggies" and has been discussed on this forum.

I also installed the "HB Brown" color display in my Humviewer and like it for viewing.

I set Color Scheme, then Change Contrast/Brightness.

Most of my recordings are taken with a SI Range=120ft.  Then I can use Humviewer's Zoom or Crop In functions to magnify the viewing image.

You are correct in that it's GREAT S/W!!!
One of the few to allow you to create waypoints and tracks from your recordings!!

Thanks a bunch Gazoo.  I read that turning ur boat causes SI interference which explains mine.  Every time I turned there are huge lines across the screen.  Lesson learned.

Right now I'm completely jealous of Humviewer.  I wish I could get my unit to look as good!
I've tried playing will Contrast, Sensitivity, Sharpness etc but nothing looks as good as my videos while in HV.  I can see a vertical tree and it's shadow in HV but no matter how hard i try I can't duplicate it let alone barely tell it's a tree on my unit.
I guess I need to play around more.
I would love to get my unit showing images as crisp and clear as HV!  Is it safe to say that most guys here have their units and HV video looking pretty much the same?

Humminbird-Greg can correct me where I wrong, but:

HB recordings are saved "raw data".  That is why you can change Hummviewer viewing settings.

I do recordings on my 1197cSI(10" @ 800x600) and probably can see things better in HV also.  Because my viewing laptop screen in 17" @ 1920x1080 resolution.  And I can leisurely study the sonar history back and forth at will.

Best sonar is 2-4mph with chart-speed the same, straight-line on a calm day.

When fish hunting and detailed viewing, my SI range is normally 3-times depth or 40-60ft.

Mostly I use HV to find, study and mark structures.  I will take a recording on a submerged bridge or pond dam, then use HV to waypoint the bridge-ends for example.

Although I have never used HummViewer I do know that displaying the sonar data on a screen that has a higher resolution will allow you to see additional details that you cannot see on you unit.
