powering unit for update question

When using an sd card to update a unit is it ok to power the unit up on the boat while doin the update

Yes, this is the only way I make my updates. 

I upload the new update on my SD card making sure there are not any other updates on the card. 

First I turn on my unit and then restore it to the original settings by using the restore menu item. 

Then I shut down my unit and insert the SD card with the latest update and turn on the unit and follow the instruction which is basically to do nothing until it completes its task. 

Do not try to intervene even if you forgot to restore the unit most of the time you will get away with it, but if you shut it down midway it will cause you some grief. 

Over the past 2 years I was in a hurry twice and did not restore my unit and got away with it, some some folks have had problems.
