Hi I am new to the forum and did do a search for my question but was unable to lacate a response so sorry if this has been asked before.

I just purchased a new boat and it came ith a 997, I also have a 997 from my old boat so was thinking of utilizing the second unit on the bow( maybe over kill). My question(s) is?

1. Can I use the universal transucer bulit into my Terrova it has a US2 transducer and if so what adapter cable would I require? I would assume I would select the 200/83khz transducer in the set up.
2. Could I network the two units and just use one GPS puck?

Bert,
Yes you can use the US2 transducer with the 997 unit.  I think that there is a Universal Sonar menu setting in the Transducer Select menu which would be the preferred setting.

You will need the MKR-US2-8 adapter cable from Minn Kota (many retailers should have these).

How are you planning on networking the GPS for these units?
You only have a few options but for the best waypoint marking accuracy, each unit should use its own GPS Receiver and it should be mounted close to the transducer.

Thanks for the quick response.

In regards to the networking I was not sure what or how I was going to network the two units? I guess I was looking for some advice. I have two complete units so I could install an additional GPS puck close to the bow mount unit. The current GPS puck is actually closer to the bow mount  than the transom transducer, so I guess I could install the additional GPS puck closer to the transom to get better accuracy.

What would be the advantage of networking the two units if they both have there own GPS pucks?

The only gain would be in sharing waypoints Bert, but this would require buying an InterLink module.  For a lot less you could buy an SD memory card and share the waypoints at the end of the day.
