actual screen size
« on: March 11, 2012, 09:27:39 PM »
I am looking at getting either the 587CI DI combo or the 596 C HD DI. I know the 587 has a 4.5 inch screen and the 596 has a 5 inch screen. What I am trying to find out is the actual dimensions of both screens. Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

To calculate the screen size go to

--->  http://daleswanson.org/things/screensize.htm  <---

If I have done it right the 596 5 inch screen has an 4.3 Aspect Ratio which according to this program makes the dimensions 3" high x 4" wide, viewing area = 12".  The 587 4.5 inch screen with a 4.3 Aspect Ratio is 2.7" high x 3.6" wide, viewing area = 9.72"  The 596 is 23% larger.

You may want to go to a store and view the screen sizes, to make your decision.

I just measured my 1197 10.4" screen and the Height 6.25 X Width 8.31". area = 51.94" which matches the program's calculations

gdvalley,
I have not measured the actual active areas of these unit’s displays but here are some measurements from other units that I believe use the same displays:

640 x 480 pixel display:
Height - 4.00 inches
Width - 3.00 inches

640 x 640 pixel display:
Height - 3.576 inches
Width - 3.576 inches
