Typical HB Customer Service Call
« on: June 16, 2011, 02:22:43 PM »
HB Support: Good morning, how can I help you?
  My damned sonar stopped working.

HB Support: Sorry to hear that sir.  Maybe I can help you.  What seems to be
 the problem?
I told you the damned thing don't work no more.

HB Support: Sir, what model do you have, and when did you purchase it?
I got the little one.  My son got it for me for Christmas.

HB Support: Sir, did you register your product on our Web site?
I think my son did that.  I don't use no computer.

HB Support: Sir, may I have your name so I can check?  Yes, I see your unit is
registered and is 8 months old.  It is still under warranty.
Good.  I ain't paying no money to fix this damned thing.

HB Support: Sir, when did you last use your unit.
I used it last weekend Crappie fishing.  I've been using it for 6 months and
I don't know why it don't work no more.  These damned new electronics ain't
  no good.

HB Support: Sir, have you looked in your owner's manual.  It has some
information about troubleshooting.
I ain't reading that damned book, it's too long.

HB Support: Well Sir, can you by chance go to your unit?
It's in the boat in the yard.  You know I can't be on the phone all day.

HB Support: Sir, this shouldn't take too long. If you go to your unit, I can
help you check out a few things.
  Ok, I'm in the yard.

HB Support: Sir, are you sitting in front of your unit?
You mean I got to climb up in that damned boat?

Why can't folks be nice.  I totally understand when something doesn't work we all get ticked but I myslef have a 1198 and have had 2 problems that were associated with it, the folks at HB Support were very nice and did everything they could do to help.  After a few minutes, my problem was solved and ended up being with previous wires from my older 898.  You have to have patience folks...patience!!  Being kinda upset on the phone only makes thing worse if you ask me.

Yea guys,
This was just a joke, although I bet HB customer support does get calls like that.

I thought people would get a kick out of it.

I agree HB service is a great set of folks..
It is amazing how many dont read the manual before calling.
A lot of customers that call are very nice.
I kind of figure that ITG was kidding.

well....my experience is a little different with humminbird support.
-The hours are poor: m-f only until 4:30 only
-when I emailed for support on Friday I got an email response the following Tuesday to call via phone instead of using email (??why have an email link??)
-I was also told to call Canada customer service
-I called the ONE support person in Canada and got the wrong answer (no big deal)
-Called back and was told he was on the phone and they would not take a message other than phone number.....well so am I....I am calling during break and CS is not open after 4:30....I guess I am nto getting support from Canada Support
-I asked for the US number and was given a long distance number....do you have a 1-800 number for me to call?  I was told I had to look it up myself.

There may be some parts of Humminbird customer service that are good but......................
all I want to do is be able to see the speed of my boat during a SI only view.

As long as you have the 798 unit connected to a working GPS Receiver, than by default you should be seeing the GPS speed in the lower left (?) corner of the Si View screen.  There are no settings that can change this.
