SI transducer on deep vee transom
« on: April 10, 2011, 08:11:10 PM »
I mounted my 798 ci HD SI transducer on my 23 degree deep vee hull using the manual directions. The inside edge lines up with a staight edge like it should.  I notice that the outside of the TD is way below the hull line. It looks like it will make a heck of a rooster tail. I launch in 6 days. Any thoughts?

As always a picture or two would help with the visualization.
You are correct in that it may rooster tail..

sir; I had to make a top spray cover for one install on a deep V. simple .060 sheet steel 1.5" wider than xducer bent in the shape of an "L". It worked.  :) Enjoy Roddy

If it does than just install the roostertail plug that was packaged with your unit.
On some boats (especially deep-vees) you have to mount the transducer this low.

Ok all my stuff is at the shore. Heading down thurs night. I'll take a few pics of the mount. I do not remember seeing a rooster tail plug. Anyone have a pic of this plug?

Well, I looked for a while and I cant find the picture.
So I went to the humminbird web and searched under tranducer accessories and while they show all the transducer mounting stuff none of the pictures show the rubbber plug.
I did find mention of a yell sheet that comes with a unit that has the ruber plug but could not find any pictures of the yellow sheet or the plug...
Anybody else???????

I was thinking that all of the 798 units shipped out with the roostertail plug (unless someone did not put it in the box…).  It should have been in a small plastic bag by itself – it’s black and oddly shaped.  I don’t have a picture of it.  I think we stopped the yellow sheet a while back Chuck.

Greg, I also heard that not all units shipped the plug.  Confirm they are still shipping the plug.  Why is the yellow sheet not included?

How much of that paint did you get on the transducer.  Did it cover the bottom of the ducer also?????

the paint is water based. The bottom of the TD is painted with transducer paint.
The unit works ok but test conditions could not be worse. The TD throws  a wall of water onto the engine cowl.

YEP....anything above 1 or 2 mph will probably do just that.
A lot of posting on this forum about transducer location, speed, roostertail and loss of depth at speed.

Found the plug in the box under a small section of folded cardboard seperate from the transducer parts. Dont know why they didnt just put in with the other parts.

Makes ya wonder if others have thrown it away not knowing it was there.  Did you have a yellow sheet on the plug?  Greg, did say they stopped shipping that awhile back.  It would have been a good reminder...

Yes it was in a bag with the plug. Since nothing in the installation guide mentioned the plug, there was no reason to root through the packing materials. I would imagine a lot get tossed. Hope it helps.
