Title: HB 999 SI shoot thru hull transducer guidiance
Post by: Don T on February 17, 2015, 10:52:42 PM
Bought a HB 999 SI.
Want to add a DI shoot thru hull transducer for high speed.
Confused on what DI shoot thru fiberglass hull transducer to purchase.
Humminbird tech support says 710225-1 XIH 9 DI is the correct transducer.
HB Tech support says with the new software release the XIH 9 DI T is the optimal DI transducer for the 999.
Reading all the various forums suggest to use the 710164-1 XP 9 20 as the correct transducer.
What would you suggest for DI high speed on the 999 and the difference between the two listed?
Signed..... confused.
Thanks

Neither SI or DI work well at high speed. Your best choice will be the 2D one. Greg or Rickie will have the correct transducer
and splitter cable numbers for you. They should be here tomorrow.

The XIH 9 DI T ...Is considered a "shoot thru" 2d/DI xducer ...(200kHz/455kHz 2d and 455kHz/800kHz DI)...

The XP 9 20 is a "shoot thru" 2d xducer ...(83kHz/200kHz) ...

The 999 cannot transmit the 455kHz 2d frequency ... Therefore the XIH 9 DI T would not function efficiently ... (It would work ... But probably not satisfactory)...

DI is considered an "Imaging" technology ...and because the DI sonar beam is a thin fan shape ...it is best utilized at slow to idling speeds to render more data into the DI image ... (Successive DI pings closer together across the lake bottom gives better detail at slower speeds) ...

Im sure there are possibilities that a DI image can be obtained at high onplane speeds ... But at a loss of detail ...because the pings are spread out across more lake bottom going faster ...

Most opt to garner high speed 2d depth readings from the XP 9 20  connected with the AS SIDB Y cable ... And then mount the stock HDSI xducer higher on the transom for protection from being struck by something in the water ...

I am curious about this statement ...
HB Tech support says with the new software release the XIH 9 DI T is the optimal DI transducer for the 999.

I don't see how it's possible for a software update to give the unit an additional transmitter function of driving the 455kHz 2d frequency of the XIH 9 DI T ...(Greg?)

I have not heard anything about the new software and any DI transducer or DI sonar function and I checked just to be sure...
