new installation advice
« on: May 11, 2013, 04:55:24 PM »
Greg or other mods
I will attach a image of my proposed set up for comments /suggestions:
I fish primarily at bow while running bow mount trolling motor(95%) of the time as I lindy rig in a river system with a controlled drift for Walleye.

1-I would like to put the 1198 mounted at bow
 and access HDSI
( from both trolling motor mounted HDSI location as well as transom mounted location)

2-I will have a 798 at console and would like to get high speed 2D from XHS920 t at transom as well as HDSI from the afore mentioned transom mounted HDSI

I ordered a TS3 switch along with my 1198 on its way now ;D
where should I place the TS3?
do I require any additional cables or switches?
any comments or ideas on a better setup plan?

I see 88 views and no replies, so I'll offer a suggestion.
With regard to the high speed 2D on the 798, you might not need the 2D only transducer.
I get good 2D from my SI transducer to 20 MPH. One of the other posters got readings to 34 MPH.
I think Greg has done even better.
I don't understand networking so I can't help with using both SI transducers.

Sorry Dave but I am tied up with training classes this week.

Is your 798 unit a 798ci HD Si model or a non-Ethernet model?

If it is a non-Ethernet version than you will need:
A TS3 Transducer Switch
An AS-Si-DB-Y cable
A US3 Unit Switch

The 798 gets connected to the AS-Si-DB-Y cable.
The XHS-9-20-T gets connected to the DualBeam connector on the AS-Si-DB-Y cable.
The Side Imaging connector on the AS-Si-DB-Y cable gets connected to one side of US3 Unit Switch.
The transom mounted HDSi transducer gets connected to US3.
The other side of US3 gets connected to one side of TS3 Transducer Switch.
The other side of TS3 gets connected to the trolling motor HDSi transducer.
The 1198 gets connected to TS3.

This will allow the 1198 unit to use either the transom or trolling motor mounted HDSi transducer.  The 798 unit will be able to use the transom mounted HDSi transducer and will always be connected to the XHS-9-20-T transducer.  Note that both units will not be able to use the transom mounted HDSi transducer at the same time.

EDIT: I just realized that I had one of the connections to the Unit Switch (US3) wrong.  I do not have time to correct it right now as class should be starting again, but you should get the idea.  The connectors are male or female so I don't think that you could connect it up wrong.
