depth information in firmware v. 3.940 recorded file
« on: October 31, 2010, 09:52:19 PM »
Is there a way to get depth reading information from recorded file from firmware version 3.940 to use in drdepth?

I forget which update added the depth field to the SON format, but it was not recorded and calculated on playback.

If the depth is not recorded in the file, the only way would be to play it back and record the NMEA output.

I connected the unit to the PC, but NMEA output show water temp and depth info only, and not GPS position, playing back file recorded with new and old firmware (connecting through hyperterminal and drdepth). how can i get both depth and gps?

What are you using to see the NMEA data on the computer?  It should have GPS string.

i use the "pig tail method": a serial port with the pin 5 -> black/GND, pin 2 -> white/NMEA output.
Here a log example from hyperterminal playing back a recorded file:

Does the GPS data show up on the HB unit when you play back?

Is it possible no GPS reciever was connected?

Now works: I have to be outdoor and get a gps fix to output NMEA data even in a playback; now i can get depth reading from old recorded file with firmware 3.940.

mirb,
Have you tried to play a sonar recording in the forced Simulator mode?
Power the unit on without the GPS Receiver or transducer connected.  When the screen shows the Humminbird 797c Si title page, press the MENU button and than select “Simulator”.  Let the unit time out and you should be in the forced Simulator mode.  Check for a NMEA output after you have started viewing the Sonar Recording.
