Title: Moving unit to another boat
Post by: Justins on January 05, 2013, 03:56:09 AM
Could anyone answer this for me. Want to use my 998si on my 12 foot tinny can I just buy another transducer and swap the head unit between the boats. I don't need GPS just the sounder, will this affect the unit at all when I use it on my other boat that has the GPS puck or will it just know what is connected and what is not.

Thanks

Justin

It will know what is connected and what is not.  You can run the sonar without gps.

You know that you won’t have GPS but do you also know that means no maps will be shown and you won’t be able to mark any waypoints to?

Thanks for the replies and Greg I thought that might be the case, not bothered though just use my hand held if I need to mark a specific spot. Was more worried that the sounder would give problems if I was moving it from one boat to another but appears that all will be fine just loose the GPS functions.

The only caution on moving is to make sure your electrical connects are sound. And to use a power source dedicated to the unit..
