Title: Minn Kota Interference - double ground solution?
Post by: Baxtebr on September 04, 2010, 12:34:50 PM
Greetings - my Minn Kota trolling motor causes interference with my Humminbird depth finder.   I called and the Humminbird rep told me to use a double ground set up to fix the issue (I tried several other things first before calling).  Is there a diagram or description of this type of wiring?  Any other solutions or recommendations?  They explained it over the phone but there is still confusion.  I know I could get a new Humminbird depth finder but I like my existing unit.  Note, it works fine when the trolling motor isn't running.  Thanks!

Baxter,
Not sure what they meant by “double grounding”.  You may have to call them back and ask that some written information and/or diagrams be sent back to you on this.  They may have been referring to checking on the fuse in the head of some trolling motors or perhaps running a grounding wire from the motor housing to the ground side of the battery that the Humminbird unit is connected to.  I’m not sure what the most up to date recommendation is right now.  If what they ask you to do does not help than they should offer a trolling motor interference kit to you to help with the problem.
