Update 5.840 - Interesting Information
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:36:36 AM »
I called Humminbird Customer Support today and told them about the
problem with viewing a recording.  Basically, when I pushed one of
the arrows to freeze the frame, there was no cursor for me to
mark a waypoint with.  The only way to get the frame to unfreeze
was to stop the recording.

I also received a message on my unit recently that it ran out of memory
because I had too many waypoints.

Customer support said that the 5.840 update is sensitive.
They said I may have older corrupted waypoints.

They suggest I do the following:
  1) Export all NAV data to my SD card.
  2) Bring in the NAV data into the Humminbird PC software so it can clean/erase/uncorrupt
      bad waypoints.
  3) Delete all Waypoints from my machine.
  4) Import the new Waypoints from the SD card.

I will try that soon and let everyone know how it worked out.

Update:
I did everything that HB told me.
I cleaned up my waypoints.

I re-loaded the waypoints after deleting from unit.
The last time I was out, I made a few recordings.

The same thing.
If you freeze the frame to mark a waypoint while viewing a recording, there is no cursor.
The system locks up until you stop the recording.
Bummer. :(

ITG,
When you sent the waypoints through HumminbirdPC, did you have it overwrite the data that was on the SD card when you uploaded the data from HumminbirdPC to the SD card or did you just end up loading the same Nav Data back into your 1197 unit?

Greg,
I used HumminbirdPC to upload the modified .GPX file to the SD card,
replacing the old DATA.HMR file.
I confirmed that some waypoints that used to be on my main unit, and that
I deleted from the card were not now on the main unit.

Poop.  That could have been an easy ‘fix’.  We have seen where some waypoint names, that were allowed by previous versions of HummPC, would cause lock up issues on our units.  These should never have been allowed to begin with but for some reason older versions of HumminbirdPC would let them through or they were saved as a DATA.HWR file by some other program that would allow them…  I’m stumped than.
