Forum and Server Upgrades
« on: July 26, 2011, 04:54:07 PM »
I just wanted to let everyone know that the forum software and server is scheduled be upgraded this coming weekend.  We have had a huge surge in the number of spammers registering on the site and have been trying to approve members one by one lately.  The software has been in the works for some time and has finally been released and the server upgrade will help with bandwidth/slow down issues we have seen over the last year.

The new software will fix some bugs that have been around for a while and also add some new features.  The Download section will be improved so we can get the latest software updates back as well as fix the registration page and some other minor bugs.

This is a great forum that has lots of info and some great members who love to help.  There have been many people who have helped and contributed over the last few years to keep the forum going, and I greatly appreciate it!  I created the Charter Member program to give a little something extra to the members who donate and we have about 20 right now.

But to keep this forum up and running smooth, we need more.  If you find this site helpful, please contribute what you can to help with our upgrades.

You can become a Charter Member by clicking here and pay $20 for 1 year, or use the Donation link to contribute any amount you can.  We greatly appreciate your donations and support in helping make this site better.

Sincerely,

Robert Gecy

Robert, Great site I know its a lot of work to keep it running. I donated through paypal about 3 weeks ago and hope that helped some. I will be donating more soon. I hope if the large amount of members find this site as helpful as I do that they will donate as well. Great job and thank you for starting this forum for all of us to use.

Even if you decide to not join as a charter member a small donation would be helpfull.
There is a vast amount of information on this site and a lot of willing folks who help out. (I have not seen this on several of the other forums)
Look at it this way.....If each member gave 5 USD there would be a great fund established for regular upgrades to help in keeping this forum in top shape.  (5 times 4000 would be $20,000.00)
So maybe some give $20...some $10.....some $5 and some $1.....it all will help in the end...)
Robert has provided a great service for HB users...well above the other forums.....and we should help in making it stay this way.
I just dont know where else we can find the answers to question and sharing information  in the helpful way it is here.
Upgrades will enhance the forum with newer areas such as downloads that contain past releases. (who else has that)
So guys and girls.......see if you can do your part.
Chuck

Edward, thanks for your donation.  Every bit helps offset the cost.

Chuck, wow!  $20,000!  I would settle for just $1 per user each year!

I also made a donation.
This is a great site with lots of information.

Robert has a good thing going here.
This site has an extensive list of valuable posts with some hardcore SI users on here.

It will save people a lot of time and grief, especially people that bought their first Humminbird unit.

If you can, give a few bucks.

Thanks.

Well, the forum is back on-line and seems to be working OK.  The server change has gone OK but had some issues that held us up a little earlier today.

The forum Theme is set to default for now and will probably change sometime tomorrow back to the HBSI Black and Green colors we had before.

Thanks to all those who have donated and helped out.  I will be adding some more features for charter members soon.

"Charter Member" supersedes "Full Mmeber".  Full Member is just a designation when you reach a certain number of post.

Wow!
Good job Rbert.
I just came back from AFG last night for a four week holiday. I don't have good access to the I-net in AFG so I haven't been on the forum lately. The more I'm impressed with the upgrade!

Keep up the excellent work Robert!

Thanks. I am still working on it a little bit.  You may notice some links are missing here and there, but it works for the most part.
