Title: My experience with the HDSI transducer VS. compact SI ducer.
Post by: Rotus623 on April 08, 2014, 11:48:52 AM
As some on here already know, I have a 798hd on the bow and an 898 on the console (networked via ethernet). 798 ducer is on the TM and 898 ducer is on the transom. When switching from one transducer to the next, particularly on the 798, the difference in sensitivity is UNBELIEVABLE!! Even the 2d sonar is more perceptive. I have to turn my SI sensitivity waaaaayyyyyy down when I switch to the HDSI ducer.
So needless to say, I was using the transom ducer even while fishing the bow. Fortunately, when I am using the trolling motor I am looking for bait or fish and structure within casting range, so I keep the beams in way tighter. For now I think it will do, but IMO it is def. worth the upgrade, especially if it is your main unit. I will get some comparison shots the next time that I am out on the water.
