1197 woouldn't load Lakemaster version 4 Woods/Rainy
« on: July 28, 2014, 11:09:08 AM »
Bought this chip to support a two week trip to Sabaskong Bay in LOTW. When we get there, it won't load or even recognize the chip. I have used Lakemaster chips for Vermilion and several other lakes and always worked to perfection. This one never did work and it was very frustrating. We boated into an island and had minimal access to technology. The NVB background maps helped but did not have near the detail I was hoping for as a first timer on LOTW.

Anyone else having this problem? I have never had to change anything other than install the chip and it takes over. I tried both card slots multiple times and got nothing. Other cards worked when I put them in.

Very disappointed at the point.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Steve.

Have you tried the new map card in another unit?  Since other map cards work in the same unit it sounds like the new map card may be the problem.

I tried it in the 997 with the same results. I haven't upgraded the software lately but it has always run just fine. My brother-in-law has a similar vintage 1197 and the same Lakemaster chip and his worked flawlessly. We didn't switch since we didn't know what the problem might be and didn't want to cause problems with his system.

Try it in his just to confirm its the map card and then contact Humminbird to get it replaced.

The whole point of spending that much money on a chip was for the trip. The trip is over and we are all back home. I don't live close enough to my B-I-L to try it in his unit. The point of my post was to see if there were setting or something I needed to do to make the chip work.

I will contact Lakemaster/Humminbird to try to figure out what to do next.

Yes - there is a way to tell it which slot to look at. I tried that and also made sure it was in "north up" not "course up"

Thanks for the thought.
