HDSI to ECW10 cables for splicing
« on: July 01, 2010, 03:57:45 PM »
We use our 1197 as a portable unit mounted in a box. the transducer is portable and we have made several temporary mounting accessory brackets that will fit most boats in one way or another. We also do not use this in speed but rather at trolling speeds (1 to 5 MPH).
To do this we cut the ECW-10 into two pieces. 1) 6 inch that connects directly to the 1197 head, and 2) a 4 inch piece that connects into the HDSI transducer.
We connected the two pieces of the ECW-10 with a DB-9 connector.  This allows the transducer to be removed from the unit when enroute to a mission.
The reason for shortening the ECW-10 was to eliminate the problem of frying the transmitter if the unit was powered on and the transducer was not attached but the ECW-10 was.
What was interesting is the color of wires in the pinouts.
If you find this helpful, here is a color diagram of the two cables.
