Helix 7 si transducer install
« on: September 22, 2015, 12:32:14 PM »
Hello,

New to the forum. I just got the new Helix 7 si. Can not wait to use it. The installation instructions state that the transducer needs to be 15 inches away from the prop and have a clear view to both sides. I have a 17 foot Fisher with a 115 merc. The mount for the motor is very long so to get a clear view for the transducer, it will only be about 6 to 8 inches from the prop. I have seen quite a few photos of other installations and they all seem to be closer that the required 15 inches.
Being so close to the prop, does it effect the performance? Are there any other options? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
JParsons

The 15 inches stated in the installation manual was written for outdrive boats that had the prop in front of the xducer ...this would cause excess bubbles flowing over the xducer face if mounted closer than 15 inches from the keel ...

The only criteria for outboard engines is to not have the xducer so close to "in front of the prop" that the xducer may cause turbulence for the prop to "Spin out" ...

And then, of course you want to stay far enough away from the lower unit to allow full "lock to lock" steering without the lower unit hitting the xducer ...
